About us
ember is the compass through the complex landscape of human feeling that is cinema.
Why did we build ember?
Selfishly, ember was built for a pair of film lovers.
Pete and Pavel love film – both watching and (very occasionally) making – and every movie night we would chase that emotional high of satisfaction that comes with having indulged in a perfect movie.
But it was too sporadic, and when it did happen it only ever came on the other side of scrolling through multiple film apps, Google searches, and IMDb listings, which all inevitably point you to what's popular now, or what the program thinks you like.
Excited, happy you might love this, but sad, depressed you after a rubbish week at work may not like this.
None of us are one person, we're multi-dimensional beings with many moods and emotions.
ember was built to be your compass through the complex landscape of human feeling that is cinema, helping to guide you to your perfect film, in the moment and the mood that you're searching.
Whether that's today's hot Hollywood hit, or a silent South Korean movie from 1952, we don't care, we want to deliver the emotional resonance that hits home when you find the film that's just right.
Mission statement
ember is the compass through the complex landscape of human feeling that is cinema.
We are not biased or beholden to the latest big blockbuster, or pumped up marketing budgets. We are led by what is the right film for our users. We always seek to recommend the perfect film and the satisfaction that this delivers.
