Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (1967-2001) is an American public television children's series created by Fred Rogers and produced in Pittsburgh by WQED with his company Family Communications, first broadcast on NET and later PBS. Fred Rogers stars as the gentle host Mr. Rogers, who speaks directly to preschool viewers, supported by cast members Betty Aberlin as Lady Aberlin and David Newell as Mr. McFeely, along with Joe Negri as the handyman. Its engine is simple but patient: each half-hour episode opens with a changing of cardigans and shoes, moves through conversations about feelings such as anger, fear and jealousy, visits to real workplaces, and scenes in the puppet-populated Neighborhood of Make-Believe. The show runs across 31 seasons and 871 episodes, a long-running series of self-contained episodes that can be watched in any order. Its handmade studio look and soft, unhurried atmosphere make it a comforting, sincere viewing experience, and fans of Sesame Street and Bluey will find a similar warmth and respect for young children's inner lives. Its tone is calm and reassuring, with humor kept small and kind, and it is widely remembered as an enduring classic of American children's television.
