Yu Yu Hakusho

After dying to save a boy, delinquent tough guy Yusuke Urameshi is granted another chance at life by redeeming himself as a "Spirit Detective."

Yu Yu Hakusho (1992-1994) is a Japanese shounen anime series produced by Pierrot and aired on Fuji TV across four seasons and 112 episodes. Delinquent tough guy Yusuke Urameshi, voiced by Nozomu Sasaki, dies saving a boy and is offered another chance at life by becoming a Spirit Detective for the afterlife bureaucracy, represented by the gruff Koenma, voiced by Mayumi Tanaka. He is joined by the hot-headed Kazuma Kuwabara (Shigeru Chiba) and the enigmatic demon Hiei (Nobuyuki Hiyama), with the composed Kurama (Megumi Ogata) as a key ally. Their engine is simple and propulsive: each case pulls them into a demon or youkai threat in the human world, and the story escalates through successive martial arts tournaments with stronger and stranger opponents. The look is bright and kinetic, with hand-drawn action sequences and lively character banter that mixes comedy with sincere loyalty. Its tone blends adventurous energy, cheeky humor and a growing bond between rivals who become a team. Fans of Dragon Ball Z, Jujutsu Kaisen and Inuyasha will find resonance in its supernatural brawling and shounen heart, across a classic 1990s anime run.

Viewers broadly regard Yu Yu Hakusho as an acclaimed shonen action series, with its fights and character bonds holding up well, though the later seasons are rated lower than the early run.
