Crashing

A comedy drama that crashes straight into the lives and loves of six twenty-something adults living together as Property Guardians in a disused hospital.

Crashing (2016) is a British comedy drama limited series created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge for Channel 4. Waller-Bridge also stars as Lulu, a young woman who moves into a disused London hospital as a property guardian alongside a mixed group of twenty-something housemates. Jonathan Bailey plays Sam, the romantic counterpart whose connection with Lulu drives much of the story, while Julie Dray, Louise Ford, Damien Molony, Adrian Scarborough and Amit Shah fill out the household. The engine of the show is simple: these strangers want stable love, steady work and a place to belong, yet the precarious arrangement of living in a building never meant for them keeps unsettling every plan. Each of its six episodes follows rented rooms, cramped kitchens, bad dates and friendships tested by proximity. The series runs for one season of six episodes and tells a single continuing story. Its tone is lighthearted and sharply observed, mixing hilarious awkwardness with a bittersweet undercurrent about young adults in an expensive city. Fans of Fleabag, Friends and Peep Show will find resonance in its blend of romantic misadventure, dry dialogue and affectionate roommate chaos.

Audiences broadly rated this British comedy drama positively for its sharp, witty writing and charming ensemble of young housemates.
