Jirisan

A team of expert mountain rangers put their lives on the line to save stranded trekkers, solve haunting mysteries and protect Jirisan National Park.

Jirisan (2021) is a South Korean mystery drama series created by Kim Eun-hee for tvN, produced by Studio Dragon. Gianna Jun plays Seo Yi-gang, a determined member of an elite mountain rescue team, alongside Ju Ji-hoon as Kang Hyun-jo, Sung Dong-il as Jo Dae-jin, and Oh Jung-se as Jeong Goo-young. The rangers of Jirisan National Park set out into dangerous terrain to save stranded trekkers, and each episode mixes a physical rescue with a puzzling disappearance or death that refuses to add up. The series plays out as one sixteen-episode season with a continuing mystery running beneath its case-by-case rescues. Set in present-day South Korea around the sprawling Jirisan mountain range, it treats the park as a vast and unforgiving character, with misty ridges, sudden storms, and remote shelters carrying weight in every scene. Its tone is somber and atmospheric, with a mournful undercurrent of loss and a steady thriller pulse. Viewers who enjoy the mountain dread of Twin Peaks or the investigative grit of The Killing will find a similar mood here, alongside the Korean prestige drama craft that Kim Eun-hee brings to large scale stories.

Viewers broadly praise the mountain cinematography, the atmosphere of the park setting and the mystery-driven story, though audience reception is positive overall with a mixed critical reaction to its structure.
