Joe Pera Talks With You

A teacher in Michigan's Upper Peninsula explores subject matters such as pancakes, blueberries, eggs, toast, sausage, bacon, English muffins, coffee, orange juice, maple syrup, waffles, cornbread, and strawberries.

Joe Pera Talks With You (2018-2021) is an American alt comedy series created by Joe Pera for Adult Swim. Joe Pera (played by creator Joe Pera) is a soft-spoken, earnest teacher in Michigan's Upper Peninsula who cannot resist lecturing on pancakes, blueberries, eggs, toast, sausage, coffee and maple syrup. His coworker Sarah Conner (Jo Firestone) and neighbors Mike Melsky (Conner O'Malley) and Sue Melsky (Jo Scott) orbit his well-meaning world, while Gene Gibson (Gene Kelly) adds a dry counterweight. Each brisk 11-minute episode is built from small, mundane detours: a field trip, a seasonal ritual, an awkward social moment that Joe treats with sincere gravity. Across three seasons the show stays a low-key, self-contained comedy rather than a serialized arc, so episodes can be watched in any order. The register is calm, joyous and comforting, with deadpan delivery and a warm affection for rural Midwestern routines. Fans of Bob's Burgers, Parks and Recreation and Welcome to Night Vale will find the same unhurried, wholesome absurdity here, delivered in a deliberately gentle cadence that rewards patient viewers.
