Bob Hearts Abishola

A love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit who unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack and sets his sights on winning her over.

Bob Hearts Abishola is a multi-camera romantic sitcom that ran for five seasons on CBS from 2019 to 2024, created by Chuck Lorre, Alan J. Higgins, Gina Yashere and Eddie Gorodetsky. Billy Gardell plays Bob Wheeler, a big hearted Detroit businessman who, while recovering from a heart attack, falls for his cardiac nurse Abishola, a Nigerian immigrant played by Folake Olowofoyeku. Bob's engine is a stubborn, sincere campaign to win her over despite her devout family, her protective auntie and her wary single mother. Christine Ebersole plays his mother Dottie, and his adult children keep the household loud and chaotic. Gina Yashere's Kemi adds sharp friendship and grounded cultural humor. Each episode is built from small domestic misunderstandings, family dinners and hospital shifts. The show is one continuing story of courtship and two families slowly blending, rather than standalone cases. Its tone is warm, cozy and gently comedic, with affectionate jokes about culture clash and an immigrant family's dignity. Viewers who enjoy romantic sitcoms with heart, awkward lovable leads and extended family chaos will find it a comforting, easy watch.

Reception is mixed, with early seasons admired for the warm lead chemistry and later seasons judged weaker.
